Aim:
To design and build a working model of a catapult and understand the principle of lever and stored energy.
Materials Required:
10-12 wooden ice cream sticks/popsicle sticks
5-6 rubber bands
1 plastic spoon
Hot glue gun / Fevicol
A small soft object for projectile – cotton ball, marshmallow, or crumpled paper

Principle:
A catapult works on the principle of a lever and elastic potential energy. When you press down the lever arm, energy is stored in the bent sticks and rubber bands. Releasing it converts that energy into kinetic energy, launching the projectile.
Procedure:
Make the base: Stack 6-7 ice cream sticks together and bind both ends tightly with rubber bands. This forms the rigid base.
Make the lever arm: Take 2 sticks and bind one end together. Slide the base stack between them and secure with a rubber band so it can pivot.
Add the spoon: Glue the plastic spoon to the free end of the lever arm. This holds the projectile.
Create tension: Place the base on a flat surface. The rubber bands will keep the lever arm under tension.
Test it: Place the cotton ball in the spoon, press the spoon down gently, and release.
Observations:
The more you press down, the farther the projectile goes, because more potential energy is stored.
The rubber bands act like springs, storing and releasing energy.

Sports Notice
Dear Principal,
Reference to CBSE Circular No. Acad-19/2026 dated 10.04.2026, available at https://cbseit.in/cbse/2024/sports/documents/19_Circular_2026.pdf, regarding CBSE Games (2026-27), this is to inform that the last date for 'Registration' and 'Applying to Participate' in CBSE Games is extended to 06.06.2026, vide circular no.Acad-29/2026 dated 13.05.2026, available at https://cbseit.in/cbse/2024/sports/documents/29_Circular_2026.pdf
After the last date, late fee will be charged for 'Registration' and 'Applying to Participate' in CBSE Games as per details given below:
From 07.06.2026 to 13.06.2026: Rs.500/- per student per game
From 14.06.2026 to 20.06.2026: Rs.1000/- per student per game
The late fee shall be paid online while filling the online form on CBSE Sports Portal.
The link for 'Registration' and 'Applying to Participate' is: https://cbseit.in/cbse/2024/sports/Home/School
In view of above, you are requested to disseminate the above information among all stakeholders, and encourage the students to participate in CBSE Games. The 'Registration' and 'Apply to Participate' on CBSE Sports portal should be completed by the school in time, without waiting for the last date.
